What About scarring?

When a plastic surgeon removes your mole, not only do you get rid of your mole, your plastic surgeon will understand the best course of action to limit the amount of scarring from the excision.  With more than 40 years of combined plastic surgery experience, either Dr. Elliott Black or Dr. Summer Black will provide you with natural, attractive results. If scarring does happen (as it does with the removal of large moles), your plastic surgeon can make recommendations for other treatments to minimize the visibility (such as laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and more).

What To Expect

Depending on the size, depth, and location of your mole, there are many different ways to approach its removal. Our plastic surgeon will make sure the area is numb before starting the procedure.

  • Shaving: A blade will be used to quickly shave the mole off the skin.
  • Laser treatments: Lasers can effectively remove a small benign pigmented lesion from the skin without sutures.
  • Surgical excision: The plastic surgeon will make an incision in the skin to cut away deep seated moles, and then suture the incision.

Other Considerations

Typically, our patients spend less than an hour in our office having a mole removed. Once the patient is at home recovering, there may be some discomfort in the treatment area, but that should only last for a few days.  We will discuss how you should implement proper skin care to limit scarring.
